Each year there is an estimated 22,410 runaway and homeless youth in Minnesota, an estimate based on the 2003 Homeless Survey conducted by Wilder Research as a snapshot of the state's homeless population. We are not meeting the needs of youth. Youth are turned away from shelter and programs in the Metro area and in Greater Minnesota every night.
The Runaway and Homeless Youth Act would provide $8 million over the biennium to:
- Fund necessary services for runaway and homeless youth
- Develop new capacity to serve youth statewide
- Provide a comprehensive evaluation of how we effectively serve youth
You are invited to endorse the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act and join a statewide campaign to secure funding for Minnesota's runaway and homeless youth.
